I contacted Network Nomad via private message a week ago in response to his Spiceworks post. After getting his ticket number it was escalated with our technical support. Although they were unable to fix his Drobo remotely, they extended an RMA to get it swapped out.
His data isn't lost, but there was an issue during the firmware update process.
